A School Led By Passionate Educators

The school will be led by Chris Edwards, an inspiring educator with over three decades of teaching experience in Australia, Southeast Asia, South America and the Europe. Most recently, Chris was the Head of UWC Singapore / South East Asia, using the power of education to transform the lives of thousands of students under his charge.

Our founders Michael and Rachel Perrett are respected business and community leaders in Taranaki with a love for education and community. Having witnessed first-hand the life changing impact of a Green School education on their children in Bali, their dream is to bring it to the families of Taranaki and New Zealand.

A School that is a Place of Joy

Many of today’s schools are characterized by rote learning, stifling a child’s capability to think creatively, feel passionately and connect outwardly. Green School is different.

We bring joy into education and ignite children’s imaginations, so they are stimulated to discover meaningful passions of their own, not just do what they’re told.

A School Built in the Sky

Our home will be the community of Taranaki. We have secured a magical site along Koru Road, protected by the Kaitake Ranges, next to the beautiful Oakura River, sitting in between Mt. Taranaki and the Tasman Sea. A majestic site for inspired learning.

With the lightest of touches we’re transforming a 60-hectare farm into a place of deep learning for years 1 to 13, suspending the structures of the school in the sky.

A School that Breeds Curiosity

After a decade of educating change makers in Bali, we bring with us a new model of education, a wall-less environment that opens minds in ways no concrete box ever will. Beyond mastering mathematics and literacy, our students will learn to think like entrepreneurs through student-guided, hands-on projects.

Connected deeply and richly to the natural environment, students will learn Maori cultural values intertwined into the spirit of the school, grounding us in the whenua, the land. Most importantly, Green School students cultivate a love of learning as a lifelong pursuit in and of itself.

A School Committed to Sustainability

Driven by John Hardy, Founder of the Green School movement, our school threads sustainability through the learning environment, curriculum and co-curricular activities. We have one of New Zealand’s largest reforestation projects happening on campus. At every grade we have hands-on programs to make students more aware of the world’s sustainability challenges and how we can make a difference.

Led by the example of Green School Bali and the success of student led initiatives such as Bye Bye Plastic Bags we will fund and support the ambitions of students to make a positive impact on the environment.
